ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort
Awarded One MICHELIN Key for Second Consecutive Year
On October 8, 2025, the MICHELIN Guide announced its selection of the MICHELIN Key Hotels in Japan for 2025.
ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort has been awarded One MICHELIN Key, marking its second consecutive year of recognition.
The MICHELIN Key is a distinction introduced by the MICHELIN Guide to highlight hotels that offer truly exceptional experiences.
Out of more than 7,000 hotels listed in the Guide, only those that meet five rigorous criteria—architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience—are awarded a MICHELIN Key.
Much like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Key serves as a trusted indicator of excellence for travelers.
In total, the 2025 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection in Japan includes 7 Three-Key hotels, 20 Two-Key hotels, and 101 One-Key hotels.
One Key: A very special stay
- A true gem with personality
- Service always goes the extra mile
- The hotel provides much more than others in its price range
Viewpoints listed in the MICHELIN Guide

Located just about over four hours from Tokyo via the Shinkansen bullet train, Appi Kogen is one of Japan’s largest ski resorts — and in the ANA InterContinental Appi Kogen Resort, it’s got a first-class luxury hotel. It’s an unusually small one — just 38 rooms and suites — but each unit offers the highest standard of service that IHG’s hotels can muster, the Club InterContinental classification.
Visually, they’ve pulled out all the stops; there’s art everywhere, as well as a 400-year-old Japanese beech tree inside the hotel’s club lounge. The rooms and suites look out through vast windows at the ski slopes and the surrounding forest, and the bathrooms, especially, invite contemplation of nature.
So too does the onsen on the hotel’s top floor, whose cypress baths face the surrounding treetops. In addition to the Japanese-style hot spring baths, you’ll find an international-style spa, and the skiing and snowboarding is some of Japan’s finest. At this small size, one restaurant and one bar are quite enough, and they’re stunning: Shiratsuyu serves farm-to-table Japanese/French cuisine in an exquisitely crafted dining room, while Mocco, on the top floor, specializes in Japanese whisky.
